This two-day workshop on URAC’s Pharmacy Core v3.1, Specialty Pharmacy v3.0 and Mail Service Pharmacy v3.0 accreditation standards is immediately following the NASP Annual Conference.
URAC accreditation requires that an organization demonstrate compliance with numerous standards that focus on quality and best practices. With so many requirements, it can be hard to focus on the intent of the standards and organize what you need to do to meet them.
The Pharmacy Core Standards serve as the common foundation for URAC’s Pharmacy Quality Management accreditation programs. Organizations must meet the Pharmacy Core standards and the function-specific requirements to be URAC accredited.
In this two-day workshop, our pharmacy reviewers present the standards for Pharmacy Core, Specialty Pharmacy and Mail Service Pharmacy. You’ll get detailed information about URAC’s accreditation standards and the requirements needed to meet them before, during and after the application process. You will learn about the accreditation process and scoring methodology, discover what reviewers will assess during the onsite Validation Review, and more.
At the conclusion of this knowledge-based activity, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the basic components of URAC’s Pharmacy Core
and Specialty Pharmacy/Mail Service Pharmacy standards
and what is needed to meet their intent.
- Identify the documentation needed to submit a complete
application for desktop review.
- Describe the scoring weights of the standards.
- Describe examples of how other organizations have demonstrated compliance to the Pharm Core and Specialty Pharmacy/Mail Service Pharmacy Standards.
- Identify key elements of a quality improvement project.
This two-day workshop is ideal for those considering accreditation, first-time applicants as well as for companies undergoing re-accreditation to provide a review of the current standards.
About the Presenters
Heather Bonome, PharmD, URAC director of pharmacy, is responsible for the development and management of URAC’s Pharmacy Quality Management® accreditation programs. She oversees the volunteer pharmacy advisory group that assists URAC in defining best practices and quality standards and manages the team of URAC pharmacist reviewers that conducting pharmacy accreditation reviews and present applications to URAC’s independent accreditation determination committee. In this capacity, she has led the team to conduct more than 300 pharmacy accreditation reviews. Prior to URAC, Bonome worked in the pharmacy benefit management field for nearly 15 years, partnering with clients to develop sound clinical strategies and promote appropriate pharmaceutical utilization. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed a post-graduate pharmacy residency in managed care. A recognized expert in accreditation and quality standards, Heather is a frequent speaker and panelist at national pharmacy conferences.
Laura Lee Higginbotham, RN, MS, has been with URAC since 2011 as a clinical reviewer. Laura came to URAC with 17 years of experience in quality improvement and accreditation. As director of quality and accreditation for a large PBM, Laura was responsible for successful PMB, Mail Service, Specialty Pharmacy, Case Management, and Disease Management accreditations. At two major health plans, Laura held positions as director of quality improvement and director of accreditation and standards. Her clinical background includes 12 years in maternal child nursing and labor and delivery. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Jenn Richards, Pharm.D., J.D. is a pharmacy accreditation reviewer at URAC. She has pharmacy background in retail, prescription benefits management, specialty, compounding, and hospital. Jenn has worked on many pharmacy improvement projects making large changes to organizational structures to provide better total patient care. Jenn has a Doctor of Pharmacy, received in 2011, and a Juris Doctor, received in 2015.
